There’s a buzzy new place to eat in Zurich. The Baur au Lac raised the curtain on a brasserie-style restaurant called Baur’s, occupying the space formerly known as Rive Gauche. The luxury hotel may have a 175-year-old history, but this new restaurant is decidedly contemporary, reimagining the classic brasserie with a modern vibe. More casual than the Baur au Lac’s other dining outlets, Baur’s was designed by the New York-based Martin Brudnizki Design Studio with distinctive spaces depending on your mood. There’s a cigar lounge, a cozy bar for aperitivo cocktails, and a central dining counter—made from marble and glass—where you can people-watch and mingle while tucking into a Swiss beef tartare or a plate of charcuterie from the joints of prosciutto dangling above.
The restaurant itself has a capacity for 66 diners. Design features include a decorative lacquered ceiling and Murano glass chandeliers, alongside a top-notch art collection. Highlighting seasonal products, the menu offers signature dishes like Sepia Linguine, Lobster and Datterini tomatoes, Sole Meunière and steak. Note that there are also plenty of vegan and vegetarian options like almond ricotta with black truffle and burrata salads. One of the highlights will surely be the wine list, which was put together by Baur au Lac’s sommelier, Marc Almert. He recently nabbed the title of “World’s Best Sommelier” after winning the 2019 Association de la Somellerie Internationale competition.
The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner. With a separate entrance off the shopping promenade of Bahnhofstrasse, Baur’s aims to draw a local crowd as well as hotel guests.
